Business intelligence (BI) includes analytical concepts, processes and tools for transformation of the corporate and market data into concrete knowledge („intelligence“) for strategic decisions. With this knowledge he companies can make their processes, customer and supplier relationships more profitable and manage the whole organisation. This decreases the costs, minimizes the risks and increases the company output.

Tools used in the area of business intelligence solutions fall into the scope of analytical information systems. The data for analysis are supplied by the data warehouses or data marts. Methods and tools for the analyses are e.g. OLAP, reporting, data mining, text mining, web mining, forecasting or case-based reasoning. The most of the methods are based on classical statistics.
